1M Token Context Window General Availability

Claude's 1M token context window has reached general availability for Claude Opus 4.6 and Sonnet 4.6 at standard pricing. Requests exceeding 200k tokens now work automatically without requiring a beta header, making ultra-long context a standard feature rather than an experimental capability.

Rate Limit and Pricing Changes

Anthropic has consolidated its rate limiting strategy by removing dedicated 1M token rate limits. Standard account limits now apply uniformly across all context lengths, simplifying quota management for developers. Long context pricing still applies to requests exceeding 200k input tokens for these models.

Expanded Media Handling

The media processing limit has been raised substantially from 100 to 600 images or PDF pages per request when using the 1M token context window. This 6x increase enables more document-heavy workflows and multimodal applications at scale.

Remaining Beta Capabilities

The 1M token context window remains in beta for Claude Sonnet 4.5 and Sonnet 4, giving developers a clear upgrade path while maintaining backward compatibility. This phased rollout allows teams to plan migrations based on their model selection.
