Always-On Agent Automations
Cursor has introduced a new automations feature that enables developers to create persistent agents that operate autonomously based on defined triggers and schedules. This extends Cursor's AI capabilities beyond interactive coding assistance to include background task automation.
How Automations Work
Automations can be triggered in two ways:
- Scheduled runs: Execute at predetermined times
- Event-driven triggers: Respond to events from Slack, Linear, GitHub, PagerDuty, and custom webhooks
When triggered, agents spin up in a cloud sandbox environment where they execute instructions using your configured MCPs and language models.
Key Features
The automation system includes:
- Memory and learning: A built-in memory tool allows agents to retain context from previous runs and improve performance over time
- Template marketplace: Start from pre-built templates at cursor.com/marketplace#automations
- Easy creation: Set up automations via cursor.com/automations
Getting Started
Developers can begin building automations immediately through Cursor's dashboard. The system integrates with existing development workflows through popular platform integrations, making it straightforward to automate repetitive or time-sensitive development tasks.
