Long-Running Agents Now Available

Cursor has introduced long-running agents, an advancement that enables AI-powered development agents to tackle more complex tasks autonomously. Unlike standard agents that handle shorter, more limited tasks, these new long-running agents can work over extended horizons while maintaining context and making intelligent planning decisions.

Key Capabilities

The long-running agents introduce several improvements:

  • Extended autonomy: Work on larger, more complex tasks without requiring human intervention between steps
  • Strategic planning: Agents plan their approach before executing, leading to better outcomes and more complete solutions
  • Improved PR quality: Internal testing shows agents complete work previously considered too difficult, resulting in larger and more comprehensive pull requests with fewer follow-ups

Availability and Access

Long-running agents are now available at cursor.com/agents for:

  • Ultra plan subscribers
  • Teams plan subscribers
  • Enterprise plan subscribers

The feature is currently in research preview, indicating Cursor is gathering feedback and may refine the experience based on real-world usage. Users can begin experimenting with the new agent capabilities immediately through their existing Cursor subscriptions.
