Dashboard Visualization and Interaction

Databricks enhanced dashboard capabilities with several visualization improvements. Pivot tables now support expanding and collapsing hierarchies, while stacked bar charts can display min/max label values and totals. Area and line charts gained the ability to sort axes by measures. Charts now support faceting, which renders one chart per dimension value for clearer data segmentation.

Table and Layout Improvements

Table visualizations received significant upgrades including support for aggregations and measures, conditional formatting with color gradients, and background color styling. The dashboard canvas now supports 12-column layouts instead of the previous 6-column limit, giving designers more flexibility for widget placement. Users can also resize table and pivot table headers and columns, with column widths set via the Style tab. Pivot tables now support cross-filtering and HTML, JSON, and image cell styles.

Genie Agent Mode and AI Features

Databricks renamed "Research Agent" to Agent mode (Beta), which now streams thinking traces inline and runs queries in parallel for faster results. Inspect mode (Beta) was introduced to automatically improve Genie accuracy by reviewing generated SQL and authoring verification queries. The table limit for Genie spaces increased from 25 to 30 tables. Genie now generates heatmap and sankey visualizations, supports metric view display names and formats, and automatically creates JOIN relationships based on primary and foreign keys.

Filters, Parameters, and Admin Features

Date range parameters now support an "All" selection, returning null when selected to display all rows. Multi-select parameters gained the ability to select all values at once. A new DD-MM-YYYY date format is available for date fields. Dashboard refresh cancellation now displays the last available data instead of an error. The platform fixed issues where datetime drop-down menus couldn't be set in global filters and resolved a bug preventing workspace admins from editing workspace-level themes.

Additional Capabilities

Unity Catalog metric view lineage now appears in dashboard info sections. Global search in Lakehouse and Databricks One now matches on dashboard content, not just titles. Point maps recenter upon relevant points when filters are applied. The Assistant for dashboard authoring expanded to support creating labels and setting color encoding values. Level of detail calculations now support EXCLUDE syntax on multiple fields, and color legends can be sorted by another field.
