Dashboard Visualization Enhancements

Databricks has expanded its dashboard visualization capabilities with several new features. Pivot table drill-through allows users to explore data hierarchies more intuitively, while chart faceting (also known as trellis or small multiple charts) enables rendering separate charts per dimension value. Stacked bar charts now support min/max label values and total labels, and area/line charts support sorting axes by measures.

New Functionality Across Chart Types

Waterfall chart faceting is now available, and point maps automatically recenter to show relevant data when filters are applied. Pivot tables gained the ability to expand/collapse hierarchies and support cross-filtering for improved data exploration. Table visualizations now support aggregations, measures, background color styling, and conditional formatting with color gradients.

Unity Catalog and Integration Improvements

Unity Catalog metric views now integrate seamlessly with the Databricks Excel Add-in and Databricks Connector for Google Sheets, allowing users to import metric views directly as pivot tables. Dashboard info now displays Unity Catalog metric view lineage, improving data governance visibility.

Genie Agent Mode Enhancements

The "Research Agent" feature has been renamed to Agent mode (Beta) for better alignment with its functionality. Agent mode now features parallel query execution for faster results and inline thinking traces for improved readability. The platform improved system prompting to deliver more concise responses for analytical queries.

Additional Improvements

Dashboard refresh cancellation now displays the last available data instead of errors, and the DD-MM-YYYY date format is now available. Date range parameters support an "All" selection that returns null values and all rows. Dashboard layouts now support 12 columns instead of 6, offering greater flexibility for widget placement. Workspace admin theme editing permissions have been fixed, and global search now matches on dashboard content, not just titles.
