Genie Core Improvements
Inspect Public Preview: Inspect automatically enhances Genie's accuracy by iteratively reviewing and improving generated SQL statements. The feature works by breaking down complex queries into smaller SQL statements to verify specific aspects, then generating improved SQL as needed.
Agent Mode Expansion: Agent mode, which uses multi-step reasoning and hypothesis testing for complex business questions, is now available to more accounts. Additionally, Genie Agent mode is now available in-region for Australia, New Zealand, and Japan, enabling lower-latency responses for users in these regions.
New Features and Capabilities
Chat in Databricks One (Beta): A unified, full-screen interface for conversing with Genie that automatically routes questions to the most relevant Genie space or provides agentic answers using available data and assets.
External Data Source Integration: Users can now connect external data sources such as Google Drive, SharePoint, and custom MCP servers to Chat conversations. Each user authenticates with their own credentials, allowing Genie to search company documents when answering questions.
Conversation Sharing (Beta): Share individual Genie conversations with granular permission controls—Private, Reviewable by space managers (default), or All account users. Existing conversations default to Private for security.
Benchmark APIs (Beta): New APIs for creating evaluation runs and retrieving benchmark results, enabling automated quality assessment of Genie responses.
Dashboard and Visualization Enhancements
Dashboard improvements include mobile-friendly layouts on small screens, custom font support, accounting-style number formatting, custom subscription email subjects, and metric view lineage highlighting. Bug fixes address pivot table column widths (minimum now 30px), dual y-axis chart generation, date cell formatting, and audit logging for snapshots and subscriptions.
Users can now right-click on time series visualizations to ask Genie to explain changes, with Genie entering Agent mode to analyze drivers.
