Broader IDE Support for Claude Opus 4.6

Claude Opus 4.6 is now generally available within GitHub Copilot, extending access to developers using a wide range of development environments. The model can be accessed through GitHub Copilot Chat on github.com, GitHub Mobile, Visual Studio Code, Visual Studio, JetBrains IDEs, Xcode, and Eclipse.

How to Access

Users can select Claude Opus 4.6 directly from the chat model picker in agent, ask, and edit modes. The availability applies to:

  • Copilot Enterprise subscribers
  • Copilot Business subscribers
  • Copilot Pro subscribers
  • Copilot Pro+ subscribers

For Copilot Business and Enterprise organizations, administrators must opt in by enabling the Claude Opus 4.6 policy in Copilot settings before users will see the model in their IDE.

What This Means for Developers

This release expands model choice within GitHub Copilot's ecosystem, giving developers using Anthropic's Claude model access across their preferred IDEs without switching tools. The multi-IDE rollout makes Claude Opus 4.6 immediately practical for teams with heterogeneous development environments, including iOS developers using Xcode, Java teams relying on JetBrains IDEs, and traditional .NET developers working in Visual Studio.
