Claude Sonnet 4.6 General Availability

Anthropic's Claude Sonnet 4.6, an agentic coding model, is now rolling out in GitHub Copilot. Early testing shows the model excels at agentic coding tasks and demonstrates particular strength in search operations.

Where to Find It

The model is available to all Copilot Pro, Pro+, Business, and Enterprise subscribers and can be selected via the model picker in:

  • Visual Studio Code (chat, ask, edit, agent modes)
  • Visual Studio (agent, ask modes)
  • github.com
  • GitHub Mobile (iOS and Android)
  • GitHub Copilot CLI
  • GitHub Copilot Coding Agent

The rollout is gradual, so you may need to check back if the model isn't immediately available in your account.

Important Notes for Admins

Copilot Enterprise and Business plan administrators must explicitly enable the Claude Sonnet 4.6 policy in Copilot settings to make the model available to their teams.

Pricing

While Claude Sonnet 4.6 is launching with a 1x premium request multiplier, GitHub notes that pricing is tentative and subject to change. This means request costs are currently at standard rates, but this may be adjusted as the service matures.
