Gemini 3.1 Pro Launches in GitHub Copilot

Google's Gemini 3.1 Pro, designed specifically for agentic coding workflows, is now available in public preview within GitHub Copilot. Early testing shows the model excels at creating efficient edit-then-test loops with notably high tool precision, allowing developers to resolve issues with fewer tool calls compared to benchmarks.

Availability & Access

Gemini 3.1 Pro is available to Copilot Pro, Pro+, Business, and Enterprise users. You can select this model through the model picker in:

• Visual Studio Code: Chat, ask, edit, and agent modes
• Visual Studio: Agent and ask modes
• github.com: Web interface
• GitHub Mobile: iOS and Android apps

The rollout is gradual, so availability may expand over the coming weeks.

Admin Requirements

Copilot Enterprise and Copilot Business administrators need to enable the Gemini 3.1 Pro policy in Copilot settings to grant their organization access.
