Merge Status Now Front and Center
GitHub is expanding merge readiness visibility by displaying pull request merge status prominently at the top of every pull request page. This new feature allows developers to quickly check if a PR is ready to merge from anywhere within the PR experience, without having to scroll through multiple sections or navigate to different pages.
Key Features
- Persistent visibility: Merge status appears at the top of all PR pages
- Works across experiences: Available on the conversation tab and the new Files Changed page
- Quick action details: Click to open detailed information about merge blockers, missing approvals, and other merge readiness factors
- Organized UI: Quickly identify what's preventing a PR from being merged
Getting Started
The feature is currently in public preview. To access merge status from the redesigned Files Changed page, you'll need to opt into the new experience if you're still using the classic version. GitHub provides more context in their related changelog post about the improved Files Changed page.
Feedback and Known Issues
GitHub is actively gathering feedback to improve the feature. Developers can report issues, ask questions, and review known problems in the official feedback discussion.
