New Region Available

GitHub Codespaces with data residency support has expanded to include Japan as an available region. This addition fulfills the "coming soon" commitment made during the January 2026 public preview announcement for Codespaces data residency on GitHub Enterprise.

What This Means

Enterprises hosted in or requiring data residency in Japan can now:

• Create codespaces with guaranteed data residency in the Japan region
• Manage existing codespaces with compliance to data locality requirements
• Maintain consistent development workflows without geographic restrictions

Getting Started

To enable this capability for your enterprise:

• Verify your enterprise is hosted in the Japan region
• Visit the GitHub Codespaces documentation for setup instructions
• Configure your development environments to use the Japan region when creating new codespaces

This brings GitHub Codespaces data residency to feature parity across three major regions: EU, Australia, and Japan.
