Organization-Level CLI Metrics Now Available

GitHub has completed its rollout of Copilot CLI telemetry tracking by adding organization-level visibility. This follows earlier releases that introduced enterprise-level and user-level CLI activity monitoring, extending the metrics infrastructure to provide comprehensive insights across all organizational tiers.

What's Included

Organization admins can now access CLI-specific metrics in both 1-day and 28-day usage reports via the Copilot usage metrics API. The available metrics include:

  • Daily active CLI users - Track the number of unique users leveraging Copilot from the command line
  • CLI session and request counts - Monitor how frequently teams interact with Copilot CLI
  • Token usage breakdowns - View total token consumption and average tokens per request to understand usage patterns

Action Items for Admins

Organization administrators should explore the updated Copilot usage metrics API documentation to integrate these metrics into their monitoring and planning workflows. This data is particularly valuable for:

  • Assessing CLI adoption trends alongside existing IDE usage metrics
  • Understanding command-line Copilot engagement patterns across teams
  • Forecasting capacity and consumption for broader Copilot rollouts
