Enhanced Integration Features

GitHub has shipped several improvements to its GitHub Copilot coding agent for Jira following feedback from early adopters during public preview. The updates focus on improving developer workflow and providing better context for AI-assisted coding tasks.

Key Improvements

Model Selection: Developers can now specify which AI model Copilot uses for a given task by mentioning the model preference in their Jira comment when invoking @GitHub Copilot. This gives users control over which model best suits their needs.

Better Jira-GitHub Traceability: The coding agent now automatically includes the originating Jira ticket number in pull request titles and branch names, along with a link back to the original ticket and context. This makes it easier to trace work across both systems.

Confluence Context via MCP: Teams can now configure the Atlassian Model Context Protocol (MCP) server to give Copilot access to Confluence pages. This allows the agent to reference design documents, specifications, and other documentation when working on issues—providing richer context for code generation.

Improved Onboarding: Based on user feedback, the integration now provides clearer error messages, better setup guidance, and expanded documentation covering integration prerequisites and common configuration issues.

Getting Started

To access these features, update to the latest version of the GitHub Copilot for Jira app through your Atlassian instance. Detailed setup instructions for MCP configuration and model selection are available in the GitHub Copilot documentation.
