GitHub Copilot support in Zed editor now generally available

General Availability

GitHub has announced official support for GitHub Copilot in Zed, the high-performance multiplayer code editor built in Rust by the creators of Atom and Tree-sitter. This partnership allows developers to use their existing Copilot subscriptions across additional development tools and workflows.

Supported Subscriptions

All developers with paid GitHub Copilot subscriptions can now authenticate into Zed:

  • Copilot Pro
  • Copilot Pro+
  • Copilot Business
  • Copilot Enterprise

No additional AI license or subscription is required beyond your existing Copilot subscription.

Getting Started

Using Copilot in Zed is straightforward:

  1. Open Settings in Zed
  2. Navigate to the GitHub Copilot Chat section
  3. Click Sign in to use GitHub Copilot
  4. Follow the authentication flow in the modal
  5. Start using Copilot-powered features in your editor
