New API Metrics for Enterprise-Level Visibility

GitHub's Copilot usage metrics API now includes comprehensive pull request metrics that allow enterprise administrators to track how Copilot influences development workflows. The new metrics cover three key areas:

  • Pull request review suggestions and acceptance – Track how often Copilot-generated review suggestions are acted upon
  • Pull requests created with Copilot agent that got merged – Measure merge success rates for PRs authored with Copilot's coding agent
  • Pull request cycle time – Monitor the time between PR creation and merge to identify workflow improvements

Access and Permissions

These new metrics are available through GitHub's existing Copilot usage metrics APIs for organizations with Copilot usage metrics enabled. Access requires either enterprise admin privileges or the View Enterprise Copilot Metrics role, ensuring governance over sensitive metrics data.

Key Benefits for Development Teams

Organizations can now gain visibility into tangible business outcomes driven by Copilot:

  • Measure authoring impact – Understand how Copilot helps teams author pull requests more effectively
  • Track velocity improvements – Quantify whether Copilot reduces the time from idea to merged code
  • Validate code review efficiency – See how Copilot's suggestions translate into actual code changes

This addition aligns with GitHub's broader push to provide comprehensive observability into AI-assisted development practices at the enterprise level.
