GitHub Copilot Usage Metrics API now tracks pull request throughput and merge time
New Metrics Available
GitHub's Copilot usage metrics API now includes enterprise-level metrics focused on pull request outcomes:
- Pull request review suggestions and acceptance rates — Track how many review suggestions generated by Copilot are acted upon
- Copilot-generated PRs that get merged — Measure the success rate of pull requests created with Copilot's coding agent
- Pull request cycle time — Monitor the time from PR creation to merge, identifying velocity improvements
Who Can Access
This feature is available to enterprises that have enabled Copilot usage metrics. Access requires either enterprise admin privileges or the new View Enterprise Copilot Metrics role, ensuring appropriate governance over metrics visibility.
Key Benefits
Organizations can now:
- Measure developer productivity — Quantify how Copilot influences PR throughput and review efficiency across teams
- Track time-to-merge improvements — Identify whether Copilot reduces the cycle time from idea to merged code
- Validate adoption impact — Use concrete metrics to justify Copilot investments and guide rollout decisions
The API integrates with GitHub's existing Copilot usage metrics infrastructure, allowing enterprises to build custom dashboards and reports on top of these endpoints.
