Organization-Level Visibility for Copilot Metrics
GitHub has released an organization-level Copilot usage metrics dashboard in public preview, bringing visibility and control down from the enterprise to individual organization admins. Previously, usage metrics were only available at the enterprise level, requiring organization owners to depend on enterprise reporting to understand their teams' Copilot adoption.
Who Can Access and Key Features
The dashboard is available to:
- Organization owners and users with custom roles that include the
View Organization Copilot Metricspermission - All organization types, including enterprise-owned organizations and standalone Free or Team organizations
- Organizations where Copilot usage metrics are enabled
The dashboard provides organization-scoped insights into:
- Copilot adoption and usage trends
- Member-level usage data within the organization
- Least-privilege access without granting enterprise-wide visibility
Implementation Notes for Admins
Organization owners can now share Copilot metrics access with team members using organization-scoped roles, reducing the need for enterprise-level permissions. However, admins should be aware that organization-level totals won't match enterprise totals—since users can belong to multiple organizations, their usage may appear across multiple organization reports while enterprise reporting deduplicates users.
For detailed information on included metrics, check the Copilot metrics documentation.
