Organization-Level CLI Telemetry Now Available

Following earlier releases at the enterprise and user levels, GitHub has completed the rollout of CLI telemetry support for Copilot usage metrics. Organization admins can now access detailed CLI activity data through the existing usage metrics dashboard, enabling better visibility into command-line tool adoption across their teams.

What's Included

The organization-level reports provide comprehensive insights into CLI usage:

  • Daily active CLI users: Track how many team members are using Copilot from the command line
  • Session and request counts: Monitor usage volume and patterns across your organization
  • Token consumption metrics: View total tokens used and calculate average tokens per request for better capacity planning

These metrics are available in both 1-day and 28-day reports, allowing admins to track both immediate trends and longer-term adoption patterns.

Why This Matters for Teams

Organizations can now correlate CLI usage with existing IDE metrics to understand the full picture of Copilot adoption. This data enables teams to:

  • Plan rollout expansion by understanding actual consumption patterns
  • Monitor usage trends to anticipate infrastructure needs
  • Analyze team behavior to see how command-line development workflows are evolving

The metrics are accessible through the Copilot usage metrics API (version 2026-03-10), which GitHub has documented in their REST API reference.
