GitHub Copilot usage metrics expand to user-level CLI activity tracking
User-Level CLI Metrics Now Available
GitHub has expanded Copilot usage metrics to include user-level GitHub Copilot CLI activity, enabling organizations to gain deeper visibility into how developers are using Copilot across their teams.
What's New
The expanded metrics API now provides:
- User identification: Understand which users are active CLI users to identify where enablement or support is needed
- Usage tracking: View CLI request counts and session totals to understand daily developer usage patterns
- Token consumption: Gain visibility into token usage to forecast consumption trends and plan for expanded rollout
Developer Impact
This builds on last week's enterprise-level CLI telemetry release, bringing per-user analytics capabilities to the Copilot usage metrics API. Organizations can now make data-driven decisions about Copilot adoption and identify users who may need additional support or enablement.
