Expanded Agent Availability
GitHub has expanded access to third-party AI coding agents, making Claude and Codex available to Copilot Business and Pro customers. This follows earlier availability for Enterprise and Pro+ tiers, bringing advanced agent-based code assistance to a broader developer audience at no additional cost.
Unified Platform with Shared Context
All three agents—Claude, Codex, and GitHub's native Copilot—run on a single shared platform with unified governance, shared memory, and shared context. Agents have access to:
- Repository code and complete git history
- Issues and pull requests
- Copilot Memory for personalized context
- Repository-specific instructions and policies
This architecture ensures developers can seamlessly switch between agents while maintaining consistent context across web, mobile, and desktop environments.
Expanded Capabilities Across Surfaces
Developers can now leverage these agents across multiple interfaces:
- GitHub web: Open the Agents tab in any enabled repository and choose an agent from the dropdown
- GitHub Mobile: Access agents from the dedicated "Agents" view or quick action menu
- VS Code: Launch agent sessions from the title bar (requires v1.109+) with options for local, cloud, or background execution
- Issue/PR workflows: Assign agents to issues, mention
@claudeor@codexin PR comments, or assign multiple agents to compare approaches
Enterprise Controls and Administration
For Copilot Business customers, admins must enable agents at both enterprise and organization levels through the new Enterprise AI Controls interface. Copilot Pro users can self-serve by selecting repositories and toggling agent access. All activity runs within GitHub's audit logging and policy management systems via the Agent Control Plane, now generally available.
Pricing and Request Consumption
Access to Claude and Codex is fully included with existing Copilot subscriptions—no additional fees required. Each coding agent session consumes one premium request during the public preview period.
