GitHub launches email alerts for usage thresholds across Actions, Packages, and Codespaces

New Usage Threshold Notifications

GitHub has launched email notifications to alert users when their included usage approaches monthly limits across multiple metered products. This feature helps prevent unexpected overage charges and workflow disruptions by providing visibility into consumption patterns before limits are exceeded.

When You'll Receive Alerts

Email notifications are triggered at two key thresholds:

  • 90% of included usage — Early warning to adjust consumption or plan budget allocation
  • 100% of included usage — Alert when the monthly allowance has been fully consumed

Alerts are sent for the following products and metrics:

  • Actions: Minutes and storage
  • Packages: Bandwidth and storage
  • Git LFS: Bandwidth and storage
  • Codespaces: Core hours and storage

What the Emails Include

Each notification provides actionable information:

  • Affected account and product
  • Approximate usage versus included allowance
  • Current billing period dates
  • Direct link to the Budgets & alerts page for further monitoring and configuration

How to Manage Alerts

The Included usage alerts control is available on the "Budgets & alerts" settings page and can be configured by:

  • Enterprise administrators
  • Organization administrators
  • Billing managers

Users can opt in or out of these notifications at any time. For additional details, see the Included usage alerts documentation.
