Live Coding Agent Notifications Now Available on GitHub Mobile

GitHub Mobile has introduced Live Coding Agent Notifications, enabling developers to monitor their Copilot and third-party agent sessions directly from their phones in real time. This feature leverages native Live Activities on iOS and live update notifications on Android to keep developers informed about agent progress without requiring the app to remain in the foreground.

Key Features

When an agent session is initiated—whether from GitHub.com, GitHub Mobile, or the CLI—developers will see:

  • Real-time session status updates: In progress, completed, failed, or cancelled states
  • Pull request context: Direct access to related PR titles and details
  • Quick navigation: Tap through to review changes and manage pull requests directly in the app
  • One-tap disable option: Opt out of live updates immediately from the first notification or through Settings

Platform Support & Requirements

The feature is now generally available on the latest production builds:

  • iOS: Live Activities require iOS 17.2 or later (full feature support)
  • Android: Live Update Notifications require Android 16 or later (older versions still receive standard progress notifications)
  • Agent compatibility: Works with Copilot coding agent, Codex, and Claude
  • Session scope: Currently limited to cloud-run sessions and pull request agent sessions

Getting Started

No configuration is required—live notifications are enabled by default. Developers can customize or disable them at any time through the Settings menu or directly from notification prompts.
