Live Coding Agent Notifications on GitHub Mobile
GitHub has launched Live Coding Agent Notifications on GitHub Mobile, enabling developers to monitor Copilot and third-party coding agent sessions in real time from their mobile devices. This feature surfaces live activity updates directly to users' phones, keeping them informed about agent progress while away from their desks.
What's New
The feature leverages Live Activities (iOS) and Live Update Notifications (Android) to display:
- Session status: In progress, completed, failed, or cancelled states
- Pull request context: Related PR title and details accessible directly in the app
- Cross-platform initiation: Sessions started from GitHub.com, GitHub Mobile, or the CLI all surface notifications
Supported Platforms and Agents
- Copilot coding agent (full support)
- Third-party agents including Codex and Claude
- iOS: Live Activities require iOS 17.2 or later
- Android: Full support on Android 16+; older versions still receive standard progress notifications
- Cloud-run sessions only are supported currently
Getting Started and Controls
Live Notifications are enabled by default on the latest production builds of GitHub Mobile. Developers can disable the feature anytime through Settings, or via the disable button included in the first live notification. This gives users full control over notification preferences while maintaining easy access for those who want real-time agent tracking.
