Gemini 3.1 Pro Now Available in GitHub Copilot

Google's latest agentic coding model, Gemini 3.1 Pro, is now available in public preview within GitHub Copilot. This model is designed specifically for coding tasks and demonstrates strong performance on edit-then-test workflows, achieving high tool precision and successful resolutions with fewer tool calls per operation.

Availability and Access

The model is rolling out gradually to the following GitHub Copilot plan tiers:

  • Copilot Pro
  • Copilot Pro+
  • Copilot Business
  • Copilot Enterprise

Where You Can Use It

Gemini 3.1 Pro will be accessible in:

  • Visual Studio Code: chat, ask, edit, and agent modes
  • Visual Studio: agent and ask modes
  • github.com: web interface
  • GitHub Mobile: both iOS and Android applications

Users can select the model from the model picker in any of these environments.

Enabling the Model

For Copilot Enterprise and Copilot Business administrators, you must explicitly enable the Gemini 3.1 Pro policy in Copilot settings before your team members can access it. Rollout is gradual, so if you don't see it immediately, check back soon.
