GPT-5.4 Now Generally Available

OpenAI's latest agentic coding model, GPT-5.4, is rolling out to GitHub Copilot users. Early testing shows the model achieves new success rates for real-world software development tasks, with enhanced logical reasoning and improved execution for complex, multi-step, tool-dependent processes.

Broad Platform Support

GPT-5.4 is available across a comprehensive set of development environments:

  • IDE Support: Visual Studio Code (v1.104.1+), Visual Studio (17.14.19+), JetBrains (1.5.66+), Xcode (0.48.0+), and Eclipse (0.15.1+)
  • Web & Mobile: github.com, GitHub Mobile (iOS/Android), and GitHub CLI
  • Specialized Tools: GitHub Copilot Coding Agent

Users can select GPT-5.4 from the model picker in chat, ask, edit, and agent modes across supported platforms.

Availability & Enablement

The new model is available to Copilot Pro, Pro+, Business, and Enterprise subscribers. Enterprise and Business plan administrators must explicitly enable the GPT-5.4 policy in Copilot settings to grant access. GitHub recommends upgrading to the latest versions of each IDE and client for optimal prompting and model parameter support.
