Music Generation Now Available in Gemini

Google DeepMind has launched Lyria 3, its latest generative music model, in beta within the Gemini app. The feature empowers users to create custom 30-second music tracks either by typing a description or uploading a photo. Whether you want "a comical R&B slow jam about a sock finding their match" or a personalized song based on family memories, Gemini translates your input into high-quality, catchy audio in seconds.

Key Improvements Over Previous Models

Lyria 3 represents a significant upgrade to Google's music generation capabilities:

  • Automatic Lyric Generation: No need to write or provide lyrics—the model generates them based on your text prompt or visual inspiration
  • Enhanced Creative Control: Users can specify style, vocal characteristics, and tempo preferences for more personalized results
  • Improved Audio Quality: Creates more realistic and musically complex tracks compared to earlier versions

How to Use the Feature

The feature supports two primary workflows:

  1. Text-to-Track: Describe a genre, mood, memory, or specific request to generate unique tracks with lyrics or instrumental audio
  2. Photo/Video-to-Track: Upload visual content and Gemini composes a track with lyrics that match the mood and context

Each generated track includes custom cover art created by Nano Banana, making it easy to share via download or shareable links.

Additional Details and Availability

All music generated through Gemini is embedded with SynthID, Google's imperceptible watermark technology that identifies AI-generated audio. This addresses concerns around AI-generated content attribution and verification.

The feature is available in beta in the Gemini app for users 18 and older across multiple languages, with higher generation limits for paid subscribers. Lyria 3 is also available to YouTube creators through YouTube's Dream Track feature, which is rolling out globally to enhance Shorts soundtracks.
