New Usage-Based Credit System
Magic Patterns is transitioning from a flat "one prompt, one credit" model to usage-based credits that scale with the complexity of each request. Under the new system, simpler requests like "change this color" cost fewer credits than complex ones like "build me a full prototype with 10 pages." This aligns with industry standards seen in tools like Cursor. Credits now map to underlying AI inference costs (input/output tokens), with approximately 1 credit in the old system equating to roughly 10 credits in the new system.
Optional On-Demand Pricing
All paid plans can now enable on-demand pricing, allowing customers to pay a fixed per-credit rate for usage beyond their monthly allowance without upgrading plans. Users can set budget limits and alert thresholds to maintain cost control. This feature is opt-in and available through workspace billing settings starting April 2.
Restructured Plans Around Features
Plans are now organized by capabilities rather than credit limits. The three-tier structure includes:
- Starter (formerly Hobby): Basic features including design systems, shared workspaces, and centralized billing
- Business (formerly Pro): Adds faster AI models, self-serve SSO, user roles & permissions, usage reporting, and team workspaces
- Enterprise: Includes technical account manager, priority support, shared credit pooling, SCIM & audit logs, and custom contracts
Transition and Pricing Protection
Existing customers will be automatically migrated to equivalent plans on April 2, 2026, with current pricing honored. Monthly subscribers keep their current rates ($19/$75) through June 30, 2026; pricing then increases modestly to $20/$100 at the next billing cycle. Annual subscribers maintain current pricing through their cycle end and renew at the new annual rate. No action is required for migration, and customers can change or cancel plans anytime.
Free actions that didn't require credits—including "Fix with AI," visual edits, and retries—will continue to be free under the new system.
