Stripe Tax Expands to Sri Lanka

Stripe Tax now includes support for Sri Lanka (LK), enabling merchants selling digital services to automatically manage tax registration and collection for this jurisdiction.

What Changed

The Tax Registration object now accepts the lk parameter in the country_options hash. When creating a tax registration for Sri Lanka, the type field must be set to simplified to comply with local tax requirements.

Who This Affects

If you operate a business that sells digital products or services to customers in Sri Lanka, you can now use Stripe Tax to:

  • Automatically manage tax registration for Sri Lankan digital services
  • Streamline tax collection compliance with local regulations
  • Reduce manual tax administration overhead

Action Items

  1. Update your API integration to API version 2026-02-25.clover
  2. Upgrade your SDK to the latest version for your language (Ruby, Python, PHP, Java, Node.js, Go, or .NET)
  3. Update webhook endpoints to use the new API version
  4. Test your integration in Stripe's test environment, including Connect integration if applicable
  5. Perform the upgrade in Workbench (you can roll back for 72 hours if needed)

For merchants with existing tax registrations, no immediate action is required unless you plan to expand into the Sri Lankan market. See the related change on Sri Lanka VAT number support for additional compliance details.
