GLM-5 Now Available on AI Gateway

Vercel has added GLM-5 from Z.AI to its AI Gateway platform, making the model directly accessible through Vercel's unified API without requiring separate provider authentication.

Key Capabilities

GLM-5 builds on its predecessor GLM-4.7 with several notable improvements:

  • Multiple thinking modes for complex reasoning tasks
  • Enhanced long-range planning and memory for maintaining context across extended interactions
  • Improved multi-step agent task handling designed for autonomous workflows
  • Strong agentic capabilities including autonomous tool use and structured reasoning
  • Document analysis optimized for extracting data from contracts, financial reports, and similar documents
  • Agentic coding with comprehensive API generation including authentication and test coverage

Getting Started

Developers can immediately use GLM-5 through the Vercel AI SDK by setting the model identifier to zai/glm-5. The integration works seamlessly with existing AI Gateway features including usage tracking, cost monitoring, automatic retries, failover configuration, and performance optimizations.

AI Gateway Benefits

By accessing GLM-5 through AI Gateway, developers gain additional infrastructure value: unified API for multiple model providers, built-in observability, Bring Your Own Key support, intelligent routing with automatic retries, and higher uptime guarantees compared to direct provider access.
