Free Pro Access for Students

Zed has launched a Student plan available to any currently enrolled university student worldwide. The plan includes a full year of free access to Zed Pro, which normally costs $10/month. This removes financial barriers for students exploring professional development tools and emphasizes Zed's focus on collaborative coding.

What's Included

The Student plan grants access to all Pro features:

  • $10/month in AI token credits for integrated AI assistance within the editor
  • Unlimited edit predictions powered by AI models
  • Real-time collaboration built directly into the editor, allowing seamless teamwork on shared code
  • Bring-your-own-API-key support to continue using AI features beyond the monthly credits

Zed also highlights several providers offering free or discounted access to students, including Google Gemini, OpenRouter, and GitHub Copilot Pro.

Campus Ambassadors Program

Alongside the Student plan, Zed is launching a Campus Ambassadors program to expand its presence on college campuses. Selected ambassadors will receive perks, merchandise, and the opportunity to help introduce Zed to their universities. The company positions this as a chance to work alongside its passionate team on the future of code editing.

Getting Started

Students can apply immediately at zed.dev/education. Those already on a free trial will have it converted to the Student plan without losing credits, and current Pro subscribers can instantly switch to the Student plan.
