General Availability Release

GitHub Copilot usage metrics is now generally available to all enterprise and organization users. The feature evolved significantly since its public preview at Universe 2025, expanding from a basic dashboard to a comprehensive suite of analytics tools designed to help teams understand how Copilot is being adopted and utilized across their organizations.

Dashboards and Visibility

The release includes three primary dashboard views:

  • Copilot Usage Dashboard: Provides insights into code completion activity, IDE usage, model breakdowns, and language usage patterns
  • Code Generation Dashboard: Quantifies Copilot's output by tracking suggested, added, and deleted lines across completions, chat, and agent features
  • Granular Organization Views: Enterprise and organization owners can now drill down to see adoption trends without relying solely on enterprise-wide aggregates

APIs for Programmatic Access

Three levels of API access enable different use cases:

  • Enterprise-level API: Aggregate analysis across your entire enterprise for user engagement, pull request throughput, and Copilot usage patterns
  • Organization-level API: Organizations can programmatically access their own Copilot usage metrics to understand team engagement and assess enablement efforts
  • User-level API: Analyze individual user Copilot usage on a specific day to identify training needs and support requirements

Access Control and Availability

Fine-grained access controls allow administrators to grant visibility to teams without requiring full admin access, using custom enterprise roles like View enterprise Copilot metrics. The feature is accessible via Enterprise Account → AI Controls → Copilot → Metrics and is now available for GitHub Enterprise Cloud with data residency support for organizations with compliance requirements.
