Expanded Usage Metrics Coverage

GitHub's Copilot enterprise usage metrics API now includes comprehensive telemetry from the GitHub Copilot CLI. This expansion provides organizations with deeper visibility into how developers are using Copilot across their infrastructure.

New Metrics Available

The updated usage metrics now capture CLI-specific activity data:

  • Daily active CLI users: Monitor adoption and user engagement with the CLI tool
  • CLI request and session counts: Track frequency and patterns of CLI usage
  • Token usage totals: Understand consumption patterns with average tokens per request metrics

Why This Matters for Enterprises

Organizations can now:

  • Track CLI adoption: Identify teams and departments where Copilot CLI usage is high or where additional enablement may be needed
  • Compare usage patterns: Analyze differences in how developers interact with Copilot CLI versus other interfaces to understand real-world development workflows
  • Plan resource allocation: Use token consumption data to forecast usage trends and plan rollout strategies across the enterprise

Getting Started

Access the expanded metrics through the Copilot Usage Metrics REST API in GitHub's Enterprise Cloud offering.
