Gemini 3.1 Pro Public Preview

Google's Gemini 3.1 Pro, an advanced agentic coding model, is rolling out to GitHub Copilot users. Early testing shows the model excels at efficient edit-then-test loops while maintaining high tool precision, achieving strong resolution success with fewer tool calls per benchmark compared to alternatives.

Availability and Access

Gemini 3.1 Pro is available to Copilot Pro, Pro+, Business, and Enterprise subscribers. Users can select the model from the model picker in:

  • Visual Studio Code (chat, ask, edit, and agent modes)
  • Visual Studio (agent and ask modes)
  • github.com
  • GitHub Mobile (iOS and Android)

The rollout is gradual, so availability may increase over time.

Configuration for Administrators

Copilot Enterprise and Business plan administrators must enable the Gemini 3.1 Pro policy in their Copilot settings to grant access to their organization's users.

Next Steps

Developers can explore all available models in GitHub Copilot by reviewing the supported models documentation. Users are encouraged to share feedback through the GitHub Community to help shape the model's development.
