Gemini 3.1 Pro Now Available in GitHub Copilot

GitHub has made Google's Gemini 3.1 Pro model available in public preview for GitHub Copilot users across multiple platforms and IDEs. This brings another high-capability model option to developers using GitHub's AI assistant.

Supported Platforms and Subscription Tiers

The Gemini 3.1 Pro model is available to users with:

  • Copilot Pro and Copilot Pro+ subscriptions (individual users)
  • Copilot Business and Copilot Enterprise subscriptions (organizations)

You can now access Gemini 3.1 Pro in:

  • GitHub Copilot Chat on github.com
  • GitHub Mobile
  • Visual Studio Code
  • Visual Studio
  • JetBrains IDEs
  • Xcode
  • Eclipse

The model appears in the chat model picker and supports agent, ask, and edit modes.

Enabling for Organizations

For Copilot Business and Enterprise administrators, the new model must be explicitly enabled. Organizations can opt in by enabling the Gemini 3.1 Pro policy in Copilot settings. Once enabled, all users in that organization will see Gemini 3.1 Pro as an available option in the model picker.

Individual Copilot Pro and Copilot Pro+ subscribers should see the model available immediately, though GitHub notes to check back later if access is not yet visible.

Next Steps

Developers interested in trying Gemini 3.1 Pro can start using it immediately through any of the supported platforms. For additional details on available models and capabilities, see GitHub's models documentation.
