New Products and Services
OpenAI and Amazon are jointly developing a Stateful Runtime Environment powered by OpenAI's models, available through Amazon Bedrock. This enables developers to build AI applications and agents that can keep context, access compute resources, maintain memory across sessions, and work seamlessly with software tools and data sources. The environment is optimized to run on AWS infrastructure and integrates with Amazon Bedrock's AgentCore, launching in the coming months.
AWS will serve as the exclusive third-party cloud distribution provider for OpenAI Frontier, OpenAI's enterprise platform for building, deploying, and managing teams of AI agents at production scale. Frontier enables organizations to build AI agents that operate across business systems with shared context, governance, and enterprise-grade security—eliminating the need to manage underlying infrastructure.
Infrastructure and Investment
OpenAI and AWS are expanding their existing $38 billion multi-year agreement by an additional $100 billion over 8 years. OpenAI will consume approximately 2 gigawatts of Trainium capacity through AWS infrastructure to support the Stateful Runtime Environment, Frontier, and advanced workloads. This commitment spans both Trainium3 and next-generation Trainium4 chips (launching 2027), providing long-term compute capacity while reducing costs and improving efficiency.
Amazon will invest $50 billion in OpenAI, starting with an initial $15 billion investment followed by $35 billion in subsequent months pending certain conditions being met.
Custom Models and Developer Access
OpenAI and Amazon will collaborate to develop customized models available to Amazon developers for powering Amazon's customer-facing applications and agents. These offerings complement Amazon's existing Nova family of models, providing Amazon teams with additional tools for building and scaling AI products.
Developers using AWS will gain access to these new capabilities alongside existing OpenAI models through Amazon Bedrock, simplifying enterprise AI deployment and management.
