New Code-to-Design Integration

OpenAI and Figma have announced a new integration connecting Codex directly to Figma's design platform. This enables product builders to move seamlessly between code and design canvas, allowing teams to iterate faster and ship products with greater efficiency.

The integration leverages Figma MCP Server, an open-source standard that enables AI agents to interface with external applications and tools. Through this connection, users can:

  • Convert code to design: Transform UI implementations from code into editable Figma designs for visual exploration and iteration
  • Convert design to code: Bring Figma designs, Figma Make, and FigJam details directly into Codex for code implementation
  • Roundtrip workflows: Start from a prompt, code, or design—and move between contexts without losing implementation details

Expanding the Partnership

This release builds on the existing partnership between OpenAI and Figma. Figma already uses OpenAI models across its platform and was an early ChatGPT app partner in 2025. The code-to-design integration deepens this collaboration by bridging the gap between creative design and engineering workflows.

According to Figma's Chief Design Officer Loredana Crisan, this integration shifts focus from "whether you can build" to "what you build and how it stands out," enabling teams to iterate on their best ideas rather than their first ones.

Getting Started

To use the integration, developers can install the Figma MCP Server directly within the Codex desktop application. The integration works with Codex across all platforms: the CLI, IDE extensions, web, and the Codex desktop app for macOS.

This comes as Codex adoption continues to accelerate, with over 1 million weekly users and 400% usage growth since the start of 2026. Enterprises including Cisco, NVIDIA, Ramp, and Datadog have already adopted Codex.
