Deeplink to AI Coding Tools

Linear has streamlined the workflow for handing off work to coding agents. Previously, starting an issue meant manually creating a feature branch and copying relevant context. Now developers can launch their preferred coding tool directly from a Linear issue with a single keystroke.

How it works:

  • Press Ctrl/Cmd + Shift + ; to open your most recently used tool
  • Press W then O to choose from enabled tools
  • Click the button next to the issue identifier
  • The coding tool receives a prefilled prompt including the issue ID, description, comments, updates, linked references, and images—no manual copying required

Supported tools: Claude Code, Codex, Conductor, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, OpenCode, Replit, v0, and Zed.

Customizable prompt templates: Teams can define standing instructions for how agents should approach issues. For example, you might configure the template to require agents to provide a detailed plan before writing code, treat issue comments as part of the spec, or outline required tests before marking tasks complete. Configure personal preferences and prompt templates in the account settings.

Additional Updates

Linear also shipped several improvements this release:

  • Notion integration: Create and update Linear issues directly from Notion's new Custom Agents
  • API enhancements: Markdown file links now render correctly in mutations; project webhooks trigger on milestone and relation changes; diffMarkdown field added to update payloads
  • Bug fixes: Resolved issues with Mermaid diagram editing, Insights fullscreen navigation, SLA history rendering, project label management, and webhook duplicates
  • Performance improvements: Enhanced emoji search for organizations with many custom emojis; agent session thoughts now render as full rich text
  • Keyboard shortcut fix: The / key now correctly types as a character in action menus when text is present
