Direct Access to Coding Agents

Starting work on an issue no longer requires manual context gathering. Linear now lets you launch your preferred AI coding tool directly from any issue with a single keystroke or click, complete with automatically populated issue details.

Supported Tools & Launch Methods

The feature integrates with nine leading coding tools:

  • Claude Code
  • Codex
  • Conductor
  • Cursor
  • GitHub Copilot
  • OpenCode
  • Replit
  • v0
  • Zed

Launch options include:

  • Cmd+Option+. (Mac) or Ctrl+Alt+. (Windows/Linux) to open your most recently used tool
  • W then O to choose from enabled tools
  • Click the button next to the issue identifier

Automatic Context Population

When you open an issue in a coding tool, Linear automatically includes:

  • Issue ID
  • Description and comments
  • Updates and activity history
  • Linked references
  • Attached images

No manual copying or reformatting required—your agent gets the full context needed for a first pass.

Customizable Prompt Templates

Teams can customize how agents approach work by defining prompt templates with standing instructions. Templates support dynamic placeholders like {{issue.identifier}} and {{context}} to inject issue-specific information. Example use cases include requiring agents to provide detailed plans before coding or treating issue comments as part of the specification.

Configure your personal tools, templates, and settings in account preferences.

Additional Updates

This release also includes Notion Custom Agents support for creating and updating Linear issues, API improvements for markdown file links and webhooks, and numerous bug fixes across documents, editor, insights, and project management features.
